Hall X 2006/07

First of all, let us congratulate the Hall 10 Basketball Team for making it to the Semi-Finals! They must have put in a great deal of effort to reach this far. Good Job Hall 10!

Today, they had their battle against Hall 2, the Champion Team of last year’s IHG. It started off badly for Hall 10 as most of our shot attempts were missed and the defense was weak. On the other hand, Hall 2 was remarkably accurate in their shots. They scored three 3-pointers, whereas our attempts all failed to score. Seems like luck wasn’t on our side.

It was 9-0 when we immediately called for a Time-out to discuss strategies to counter the problem. However, they were too careless and committed a few fouls that gave the opponents many free throws. The score was then brought to a further gap of 0-18 and we still have not scored!

Just when the score was very discouraging, Tze Xiong broke the spell and scored our first shot. All of the supporters gave out a loud cheer for him. Well done Tze Xiong! But our defense remained weak and fouls were still committed. The 1st quarter ended with a discouraging score of 3-21.

But No! Our Hall Team will not give up so easily! From the 2nd Quarter onwards, we were beginning to catch up. Yong Li and Wei Qiang each scored a 3-point shot and we finally saw a glimpse of hope! This has definitely boosted our team morale.

During the 3rd Quarter, Hall 10 started their scoring streak! It started off with Yong Cai making a magnificent long pass to Yong Li who was running fast to the basket and he scored! It was beautiful! The 2 ‘brothers’ make perfect tag team attack. Bravo! Many of them including Tze Xiong and Wei Qiang also started scoring as well.

It then continued with a fast break from Yong Cai and his superb 3-pointer and following that was Yong Li who scored yet another 3-point shot. The Team brought the score back to a closer difference of 31-43 and ended the 3rd Quarter.

Just when the 5 of them on court were playing exceptionally well as a team and scoring fast to close up the gap during the last quarter, Yong Cai was fouled out due to a maximum of 5 fouls committed. It was totally RIDICULOUS as he definitely did not commit so many fouls.

Indeed, we were right! We found out later on that the table officials recorded a foul for him during the 1st Quarter. But he wasn’t even on the court during the 1st Quarter as he only started playing during the end of 2nd Quarter. This was a TERRIBLE MISTAKE made by either the table officials or the referees because it disrupted their winning streak.

However, the Team wasn’t swayed by their aim of winning, they continued to fight against Hall 2 with their best effort, together with the moral support given by our hall supporters. There was a point whereby the score was brought to a tie game with a score of 52-52.

It was a very close fight but the last quarter became a little messed up with some mistakes of committing technical fouls and also giving them many chances to intercept the ball.

In the end we lost to Hall 2 by a small margin. The score was 59-52.

Although we did not make it into the finals, but we have shown other halls that we are a strong team! You guys have shown us what is excellent sportsmanship! In all our hearts, you guys are the winner! Wonderful Job Hall 10!

There is a Semi Final Squash Match at 2pm today. Did I heard wrongly? No. Our hall ten squash team has reach semi final, hurray! Today our squash team will compete against hall 2. Hall 2 has a very strong side, out of their 5 players, four of them are either IVP players or ex. IVP players, and the other one is a tennis player.

The first match starts at about 2.30pm. It is a IVP versus IVP match. Hall 2 sends in their ex. IVP player and we send in ours also. It is a close fight, both side are equally skilled, and the score is close. Our first player apparently has better stamina and he takes the advantage and wins the first round 9-7. The second round ended with hall 2 winning 9-4.The third round is the exciting round, at one point our side is winning 7-3, but the opponent is equally determined to win the match, their player fight back hard and chase the score back to 7-7. The “battle” was so intense that their player broke his shoes and causes the game to pause for a few minutes. The “battle” continues, we lost this round 9-7 den lost the subsequent one 9-0.

For the second match, they send in another female IVP player, our side lost to them 9-2, 9-2, 9-2. For the third match, our player fought hard, but yet still lost the game, 9-3, 9-1, 9-1.

We lost the game. But our hall players are real sportsmen, they insist on playing the forth match. This was a friendly match with both side gaining much experiences.

We might have lost the game, but we are proud of ourselves and happy that we have reached the SEMI final. Well done!

Hall X table tennis team set off to SRC for their match today, not knowing that it is going to be longer day than they expect.

It was a match gainst hall 3. First up was Alex, our ex-JCRC president, in the men’s single. Alex took up table tennis since he was in secondary school and is a rather experienced player. He won his match despite having a tummy upset right before the match begins.

Next up was our female’s single. It was a very close fight and the score eventually came to 2-2, each party winning 2 sets. After a good fight, we lost.

Our men’s double was ready to fight hard next and they indeed, fought hard but lost the match eventually. The overall score became 2-1, with us lagging behind for the moment.

Our women’s double went up the battle field next. Despite the fact that this is the very first table tennis match our two players ever played, they won their match beautifully and brought the score to overall score to a draw of 2-2.

The last battle was the battle between mixed group double, that is, each team is to send out a woman and a man as a double team. It was a very exciting match. Both teams bite on to each other tightly and never allow their scores to drift too far apart. It was the deciding match. The battle got even more exciting when both teams each won 2 sets, and they began to play the deciding set. It was a fierce battle which could leave no audience sitting. Eventually the set finished with the scoreline of 4-11, and our team proudly emerged as the champion, which gave us the entry to the quarter-finals, which was to be played that very afternoon at 1pm.

After lunch, our player met up again at SRC to practice. Then came the match against hall 6, which is a very strong team consist purely of IVPs.

Alex fought hard but the opponent was way too strong. It wasn’t a flattening defeat given the effort Alex put in to pull the scores closer. The match was lost.

Next up was our female singles, which met up with a very strong IVP player as well. It was lost as well.

Then came the male doubles, where Secksen, our captain, played with Laohu, against the once again, IVP team. It was this time round a very very close fight. Scores were very close with players smacking the ball over the net over and over again. However, the match still came to an end with the result we wouldn’t like to, but have to, accept. It was lost.

The match against hall6 was lost. However, it is a glory for our young team to get through to quarter finals. Hall X will continue to shower our team with support as the continue to fight and grow.

Hall 10 had a formidable line-up of players. Our star player, Kelvin, is a national player that proved to be the engine of Hall 10. With great agility and strength, we formed a balanced attack across three lines combined with strong goaltending to create the best team.

The captain got the team playing an aggressive game that turns at full speed. Having more attacking chances compared to our opponent, Hall 9, we attacked with ferocity. Our defence marked Hall 9 forwards tightly leaving them with not much room.

However, Hall 9 perseverance and determination got them a short corner and they scored! With this goal, we now had the pressure to equalize within less than 15 minutes. Even so, the guys fought on, trying to bring back the balance of the game. Although we had attacking chances, Hall 9 goal-tender managed to keep his composure and saved the goals. Time flew by and before we know it, the game had already ended.

With the final score of 1 - 0, we lost the match. We did file a appeal due to some disagreements with the referees but it was unsuccessful. We could only try again next year. But still, well done guys!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Hall 10’s female hockey team had to abandon their game against Hall 9 just days before the new year.

On the 3rd of January, the match was resumed once again and our girls yet again put on a tough fight. Having concede nearly about 5 short corners in the span of about 3 minutes, the opponents allowed the Hall 10 girls many shots on goal but unfortunately none went in. Soon the match ended in a draw and it was time for a penalty shootout and four of our heroes ensured that Hall 10 went through with a win. Cassandra, our goalkeeper saved all 3 of the opponents’ shots and Jazzel, Karen and Zhen yi took 3 of the Hall 10’s penalty shots with Jazzel eventually scoring the winner.

A win called for our girls to have yet another match against the Hall 7 team and this time round, the girls ensured that the opponents could not get pass them.

Yet again there were many shots on goal but none went in and the solid Hall 10 defence and goalkeeper ensure that the oppenents could not get anywhere close to winning. The game ended in a draw and it was time for a penalty shootout once again.

The 3 girls once again tried their very best at goal and the goalkeeper also did her best to keep out all the shots but eventually, one special successful penalty shot by the opponents carried Hall 7 to victory and our girls now vow to come back even stronger and fiercer in the next IH.

3 Cheers to the Hall 10 Female Hockey team!

It’s Saturday morning and our team reached the SRC as early as 815am in the morning for their warm-ups. The whole hall was filled with chatting of people and the sound of balls bouncing on the table and hitting of bats.

Today our team is competing against Hall 13. Despite the lack of supporters from our block, our team’s spirit didn’t slacken at all as we were all well prepared to face our opponents. Our team captain Seck Sen stayed with the team members throughout all the games, giving the players moral support and instructions on how to better play the game so as to stand a better chance against out opponents.

It was so sad that although Hall 13 didn’t have all its players turn up for the game, they still showed sportsmanship and showed up for the match. Hall 10 walked over in the female double and mixed double. We won the male single and male double but we lost the female single unfortunately.

Though it was quite an easy win for us, our team members will still continue to strive to win in following matches. Good luck for the team!

Having to compete with our fellow neighbour, Hall 11, we tend to be pressurized as both halls trained in the same common hall. Being familiar with each other capabilities and techniques, our hall shown great enthusiasm and high spirit to fight on.

With a brilliant start, the woman singles clinched a speedy victory. Next match was a tense fight for the mixed doubles, a third set had to be played. The players were seen fighting hard and we know we are going to win when we see their smile on their face. The men singles was another fine display of intense game where our player displayed outstanding agility and good judgment. The last set was extremely close initially, with both players neck to neck in points, however Hall 11 could not stop our winning streak.

However, we lost the men’s doubles and women’s doubles with one of our female player still recovering from yesterday’s game. We end the day with a score of 3-2, congratulations to Hall 10 badminton team.

Today’s weather was very fine. The sun was hidden behind the clouds. The grounds slightly warm, just nice for a netball match. Our opponent this time is Hall 8. This is a crucial match for us as we had lost our first preliminary round and this match will determine if we will stay on in the rest of the games.

Our team fought bravely despite the lack of supporters from our side. Both of us were almost equally matched. Audiences were kept on their toes as they watched both teams pacing up and down the court.

Our team lost 3-2 in the 1st quarter, draw 5-5 in the 2nd quarter, draw 8-8 in the 3rd quarter and lost 8-12 in the last quarter. Though there were many fouls along the game, both teams showed sportsmanship.

Its sad to say that we didn’t qualify for the next match. But I am sure that the girls have gained more experience in this game. Next year we will do better!

Though Christmas has just past a few days ago, a sea of green and red could be seen in the NIE volleyball court. It is the semi- finals for our hall 10 girls’ team as we battle it out with the prominent sports hall, hall 6. Spirits was high as our supporters got ready to cheer for the ladies. Hall 6 cheered their players on with big bottles but we did not lose out either as our supporters shouted loudly in unison to spur the girls on.

During the first set, the girls were all ready and set to bring down their tough opponents.
The game ended with a score of 25 to 15.

With one set down, our girls never gave up and were on all attentive for the ball. It was a tough fight as our girls dived in the attempt to save the ball. Good coordination could be seen as Ruilin set the ball up high and Yunxuan giving a fatal smack right into the opponent’s court. We held on tight, making it difficult for hall 6 to score and closing the score between them. However, we made a few mistakes towards the end and lost the game 25 to 20 to them.

The 3rd game was the most crucial set as it was their last chance to make a comeback. All eyes were on the ball and the supporters held their breath as the ball crossed the net and into our court. Tension was high and with every win, our supporters gave a roaring cheer hoping that it will keep the spirit high for the girls. Several players were disappointed with their misses during the game, however with the encouragement of their teammates and the ever- enthusiast supporters, they regained their confidence and were all determined to get back the balls that they have missed. The final score was 25 to 14.

We might have lost this game, however it was no easy win for hall 6 as well. Our strong serve and great team work showed the opponent what we were made of. Well done girls, you will all be the ace in our hearts.
